Teenager Admits to Murder of Kayden Moy

A teenager has admitted to the murder of 16-year-old Kayden Moy, which occurred on Irvine Beach.

A jury was informed that Cole Turley, 18, had previously pleaded guilty to the murder, while two other teenagers have gone on trial for the killing that took place on 17 May 2025.

Details of the Murder Charge

The murder charge alleges that Jay Stewart, 18, and a 15-year-old boy, acting in concert with Turley, pursued Kayden Moy, causing him to fall to the ground before repeatedly stabbing him on the body.

It is further alleged that Stewart and the other teenager harbored prior ill-will and malice towards Moy.

Additional Charges: Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice

Stewart and the 15-year-old face a separate charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice, purportedly acting with Turley between 17 and 21 May 2025.

The allegations state that they attempted to remove blood from the knife, fled Irvine Beach, and concealed themselves within bushes in the area.

They are said to have requested a third party to book a taxi to facilitate their departure from the scene.

It is claimed that the pair traveled to an address in East Kilbride, where they repeatedly covered their faces with clothing to avoid identification by cameras and a video doorbell.

The defendants are alleged to have changed their clothing and washed their bodies and hands to remove blood traces.

Knives are reported to have been hidden in a divan bed frame and a freezer.

Furthermore, it is claimed they requested someone to burn their discarded blood-stained clothing and telephone.

The allegations also state that they fled the East Kilbride property through a window to evade police detection.

It is asserted that the pair used cash for purchases to avoid linking debit cards to their activities.

Later, they are alleged to have handed police the clothing they were wearing, stating it was worn at the time of the alleged murder.

The 15-year-old is reported to have stayed at a Holiday Inn in East Kilbride.

Additional Charges Against Jay Stewart

Jay Stewart faces a separate charge alone, accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at an address in East Kilbride on 1 May 2025.

It is alleged that he sent threatening messages via social media to an individual named Jay McGarry or Mooney, 18.

Stewart and the 15-year-old also face a similar charge for an incident on 17 May at Irvine Beach, where they are said to have acted with Turley by shouting, behaving aggressively, challenging others to fight, and brandishing knives and a baton.

They are further accused of acting with Turley to throw rocks recklessly and culpably at members of the public, thereby placing them in danger of injury.

Stewart and the 15-year-old lastly face charges of possessing a knife on Irvine Beach.

Trial Proceedings and Legal Representation

The trial at the High Court in Glasgow revealed that the defendants have lodged a special defence of incrimination against Turley, who, as the clerk informed jurors,

"has already pleaded guilty to said [murder] charge."

Jay Stewart is represented by Donald Findlay KC, while the 15-year-old is represented by Ian Duguid KC.

The trial continues before Judge Lord Scott.
