Jill Biden Expresses Fear During Husband's 2024 Debate
In an upcoming CBS interview scheduled to air Sunday, former First Lady Jill Biden revealed she was deeply concerned during President Joe Biden's 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump, fearing he might have suffered a stroke.
“I was frightened, because I had never, ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never,”
Jill Biden stated in a 30-second clip from the interview.
“As I watched it, I thought: ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke,’” she said. “And it scared me to death.”
Debate Performance Sparks Alarm Among Democrats
Biden's faltering performance in the June 2024 debate raised significant concerns among Democrats, leading to calls for him to withdraw from the presidential race. Under mounting pressure, Biden ultimately ended his re-election campaign and endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris, leaving her only 107 days to campaign before the November 2024 general election.
Details of the June 2024 Debate
During the 90-minute debate held in Atlanta, the then 81-year-old President Biden exhibited a raspy voice, frequently stumbling over words, taking extended pauses, and mumbling both inaudibly and occasionally incoherently.
At one point, his rambling response prompted Trump to comment:
“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said either.”
Biden attempted to criticize Trump’s policies on tax cuts and the national debt but confused the line, stating:
“We finally beat Medicare.”
His team later clarified that he intended to say his administration had “beat big pharma.” However, this slip reinforced ongoing concerns about the mental acuity and physical condition of the United States’ oldest president.
Additionally, Biden deviated from a prepared script, shifting to references about women killed by immigrants, a topic often emphasized in Republican rhetoric and considered one of his weaker areas.
Jill Biden's Support and Upcoming Memoir
Throughout her husband's extensive political career, Jill Biden has remained a steadfast supporter. Shortly after the June 2024 debate, she publicly praised his performance at a rally, stating:
“Joe, you did such a great job. You answered every question. You knew all the facts.”
Next week, Jill Biden is set to release View from the East Wing, a memoir detailing her time in the White House. The book is expected to provide her personal perspective on her husband’s challenging re-election campaign and his historic decision to withdraw from the race.
