Sentencing of Robert Evans Jr for Manslaughter
Robert Evans Jr has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after admitting to manslaughter in the death of restaurant owner Sharif Rahman. Evans Jr was extradited from Scotland to Canada to face charges related to the incident that occurred in August 2023.
Sharif Rahman died in hospital a week after the assault, which involved a one-punch attack causing him to hit his head on the pavement. The altercation was reportedly triggered by a dispute over an unpaid restaurant bill.

The court in Ontario was informed that due to time already served, Evans Jr will serve the remaining seven months of his sentence before remaining in custody pending deportation to the United Kingdom.
Evans Jr was extradited alongside his father, Robert Evans Sr, and his uncle, Barry Evans. Both men admitted to being accessories to the crime. They were sentenced to time already served and have since been deported. All three men are believed to be from Manchester, England.
Background of the Altercation
Sharif Rahman, a father of one originally from Bangladesh, died a week after a physical altercation with members of the Evans family in Owen Sound, Ontario, approximately 118 miles (190 km) from Toronto.

Rahman was found in the street by a restaurant staff member and was subsequently taken to hospital in London, Ontario, where he later died.
Extradition and Arrests
At the time of the incident, Canadian media reported that the three men were in Canada on holiday visas and left the country shortly after the altercation.
More than a year later, Police Scotland arrested Evans Jr and his father in Edinburgh, while his uncle was arrested in Dalkeith.
