Warmer Weather Expected in the UK This Week
Following a cool and wet start to June, temperatures across the United Kingdom are set to rise, bringing much warmer conditions by the end of this week. High pressure systems are building, leading to drier and sunnier weather for most regions.
England and Wales will experience temperatures climbing into the mid to high 20s Celsius (approximately 77°F to 84°F), while Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to reach the low 20s Celsius (68°F to roughly 77°F).
Despite this warming trend, it remains too early to confirm whether conditions will be sustained enough to officially declare a heatwave.
Before the weather stabilizes later in the week, the UK will face additional heavy rain and thunderstorms. On Wednesday, heavy showers are forecast across nearly all areas, with a high likelihood of thundery conditions particularly in eastern Scotland and eastern England.
Temperatures on Wednesday will feel cool for the season, ranging from 3 to 6 degrees Celsius below average.
These lower temperatures are expected to continue into Thursday as a large rain system moves in from the west, affecting many parts of the UK.
Friday will see drier, brighter, and slightly warmer conditions, but it is over the weekend that high pressure will gradually build from the south, leading to more significant temperature increases.
June has brought more rainfall than all of spring to parts of the UK.
Temperatures will rise over the weekend, particularly across England and Wales.

How Warm Will It Get?
With sunshine expected across most of England and Wales over the weekend, combined with a southerly breeze, temperatures are forecast to climb to between 22°C and 27°C, potentially reaching 28°C (82.4°F) in south-east England by Sunday.
These temperatures represent approximately 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above average for early June.
Some of the warmth will extend into Northern Ireland and southern Scotland, with highs on Sunday ranging from 20°C to 22°C. However, more northern areas are expected to remain closer to average, with temperatures between 17°C and 20°C.
Cloud cover will be more prevalent across northern regions of the UK during the weekend.
This warmer-than-average weather is predicted to continue into next week. However, for an official heatwave to be declared, temperatures must exceed 25°C to 28°C—depending on location—for three consecutive days.
While it is possible that some areas may meet this criterion, it remains uncertain. Weather models differ on the positioning of the high pressure system in the coming week.
Some forecast models maintain high pressure over the UK, which would sustain mid- to high-20s temperatures. Others suggest the high pressure will shift eastward, allowing westerly winds from the Atlantic to return, bringing cooler temperatures along with cloud and showers.
