Officers to Face Gross Misconduct Hearing

Two police officers are scheduled to face a gross misconduct hearing regarding their handling of an alleged assault that occurred weeks before a stabbing incident on a train.

Ricky Butcher was waiting for a taxi outside a social club in Peterborough on 27 September when he reported being attacked, resulting in facial injuries.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) stated that one officer allegedly failed to carry out appropriate inquiries, and both officers are accused of concealing this by falsely reporting that no CCTV footage was available.

This incident has been connected to a knife attack on a train passing through Cambridgeshire on 1 November, during which 10 people sustained injuries.

IOPC Statement

"While we have found the officers will face disciplinary proceedings, it will be for the force to organise the hearing and its misconduct panel to determine whether, based on the evidence, the allegations of gross misconduct are proven," said IOPC director of engagement, Emily Barry.
"The parties involved have been notified of our decision."
