A 16-year-old boy sustained severe gunshot wounds following a shooting incident in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police reported that the shooting took place just before 17:30 BST on Bowyer Road in Alum Rock.

The injured boy was transported to hospital where he is receiving treatment for what police described as "potentially life-threatening" injuries.

Police Statement and Investigation

Authorities clarified the circumstances surrounding the location of the shooting, stating:

"Although this happened near a mosque, at this stage we do not believe the shooting to be connected to this place of worship."

The police also acknowledged community concerns, adding:

"We understand this is extremely worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns."

Investigators continue to examine the scene to gather more information.
