Gift of Revolver at NATO Summit

Sir Keir Starmer was presented with a personalised revolver accompanied by live ammunition by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the NATO summit held in Ankara.

The firearm, which bears an engraving of the prime minister's name, was among a series of similar gifts given to the leaders of each country attending the event.

Sir Keir's revolver has not been transported back to the United Kingdom and remains in the possession of British officials in Turkey.

It is anticipated that the revolver will be decommissioned prior to its return, rendering it incapable of firing live ammunition.

President Erdogan waived export controls on the gift; however, the revolver was retained in Turkey due to UK laws prohibiting the import of live firearms.

Defence Agreement and Summit Outcomes

During the summit, Sir Keir signed a defence agreement with President Erdogan, which is expected to facilitate enhanced intelligence sharing between the two nations.

Following the summit, Sir Keir expressed his view that the alliance had become stronger and more unified as a result of the meeting.

"This has been a good summit. We achieved what we wanted to achieve, which is unity.
"So important we have that, particularly with the conflicts going on in Ukraine and the conflicts in Iran,"

he added.

Final Major International Event

This summit will be Sir Keir's last significant international engagement, following his announcement of resignation last month.
