Scottish Labour has removed its election candidate for the significant Holyrood constituency of Glasgow Southside after he was formally charged with fraud.

Mohammed Ameen, who was the party's hopeful for Glasgow Southside, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week where he made no plea and was subsequently granted bail.

Ameen, a pharmacist and community council leader, has been suspended by Scottish Labour in response to the charges.

Replacement Candidate and Constituency Context

Following Ameen's suspension, Rashid Hussain, who leads the Labour group on Glasgow City Council, has been selected as the new candidate for the party.

The Glasgow Southside seat has been held since 2011 by former first minister Nicola Sturgeon, who has announced she will not seek re-election in the upcoming election next month.
