Wildfire Prompts Evacuation Advisory in Conwy County

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported being alerted to a wildfire in the early hours, which has since spread across Conwy Mountain and the Sychnant Pass area in Conwy county. Firefighters have been actively combating the blaze since Sunday morning.

Residents in the rural community have been advised to evacuate their homes as a precaution due to the advancing wildfire. Penmaenmawr town council specifically urged householders in Capelulo, especially those near the Fairy Glen public house, to

"leave safely and follow the instructions of the emergency services on scene"
in a Facebook post.

The evacuation notice is primarily precautionary, prompted by smoke being carried by the wind, which could affect the local population's health and safety.

For those unable to return to their homes, the Gladstone Inn has been designated as a place of safety for evacuees. Additionally, the Conwy Old Road in Dwygyfylchi remains closed due to the ongoing fire.

North Wales Police have also issued advice to other residents in the area to

"keep all doors and windows closed for the time being"
to minimize smoke inhalation risks.
