House Fire and Assault in Newtownabbey

The occupants of a house in County Antrim that was deliberately set on fire managed to escape, according to police reports.

The incident occurred at approximately 23:00 BST on Fairview Lane in Newtownabbey.

Upon arrival, police found the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attending to fires involving three vehicles and the house itself.

The occupants were able to evacuate safely, though a man sustained minor head injuries. Police believe these injuries are consistent with a suspected assault.

Significant damage was inflicted on both the house and the vehicles as a result of the fires.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are investigating the possibility that a "disturbance and assault" took place inside the property prior to the fire.

The police are treating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life, as well as burglary.

Detectives continue to conduct enquiries to establish the motive behind the incident and identify those involved.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Sergeant Ash of the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated:

"Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage of the area or who noticed suspicious behaviour."
