Prince Harry Reconsiders UK Visit Plans

The Duke of Sussex is reconsidering plans to bring his wife, Meghan, and their two children to the UK next month following the rejection of his request for police protection, according to BBC sources.

Prince Harry, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, were scheduled to make their first family visit to the UK in four years.

His team submitted a formal request for police security during their stay in the UK but were informed on Friday that no taxpayer-funded security would be provided.

Sources indicate that Prince Harry is distraught over the decision, which was made just days before the family's planned arrival, but he remains interested in finding a way to proceed with the trip.

Security Review and Decision

The prince's team awaited the outcome of a security review conducted by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which advises the Home Office on security provisions for senior royals.

On Friday, after announcing the details of the UK visit, the team was notified that no police protection would be granted for the family.

Accommodation and Security Arrangements

Prince Harry and Meghan had accepted an offer to stay on a royal estate during their visit, as guests of King Charles, although the specific royal residence has not been disclosed.

They were also expected to use private accommodation while in the UK.

Police protection would be available while staying on the royal estate; however, outside of those periods, Prince Harry would have to rely on a private security team accompanying them from California.

The family planned to stay in the UK for approximately five days.

Public Engagements and Visit Purpose

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, intended to join Prince Harry for several public engagements in London and the Midlands.

The visit was scheduled to coincide with the start of the year-long countdown to the Invictus Games, an event for injured military personnel set to take place in Birmingham next July. Prince Harry is a founder of the games.

He was also expected to visit other UK-based charities he continues to support since relocating to California.

Previous Visits and Security Concerns

On prior visits, Prince Harry declined offers to stay at Buckingham Palace, citing concerns about the high-profile and visible nature of the building.

Last year, he lost a legal battle seeking regular police protection while visiting the UK.

Following the ruling, in a interview, Prince Harry expressed his desire for a "reconciliation" with the Royal Family and voiced concerns about the safety of bringing his wife and children back to his country of birth.

"I can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point and the things they're going to miss is, well, everything," he said. "You know I love my country, I always have done despite what some people in the country have done."

Family Interactions and Future Decisions

The last time King Charles saw his grandchildren in person was during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

Prince Harry last met his father in September, when they had tea at Clarence House. This was their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024.

A final decision regarding the trip and the participation of Meghan and the children is expected in the coming days.
