Police watchdog to investigate fatal wrong-way crash on M90 motorway

The police watchdog will investigate a fatal crash on the M90 where a Ford Kuga drove the wrong way, resulting in two deaths. Police had been involved in a pursuit before the collision near junction seven on Friday night.

Investigation into Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on M90

The police watchdog will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of a collision on the M90 motorway that resulted in the deaths of two drivers after one vehicle was driven the wrong way.

At approximately 22:30 on Friday, a grey Ford Kuga was observed traveling northbound on the southbound carriageway of the M90 near junction seven. Moments later, it collided with a white Vauxhall Corsa traveling southbound.

Authorities confirmed that the 44-year-old driver of the Ford Kuga and the 20-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Corsa were both pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that police officers had been involved in a car pursuit prior to the collision.

"A referral of the circumstances of the incident has been submitted by Police Scotland's Professional Standards Department to the Police Investigation & Review Commissioner for consideration."

The M90 motorway was closed for approximately 16 hours between junctions six and nine to facilitate investigations by emergency services. Additionally, the northbound carriageway was temporarily closed overnight.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses who were traveling on the M90 at the time of the incident to come forward and provide any information to assist with the investigation.
