Police Revisit Scene in Dungiven Hit-and-Run Death Investigation

Police Return to Scene of Suspected Hit-and-Run in Dungiven

Authorities are revisiting the location of a suspected hit-and-run incident in Dungiven, County Londonderry, where a 69-year-old man lost his life.

Patrick Flanagan, a retired teacher well known in Derry, was found with severe injuries on the Foreglen Road, situated between Claudy and Dungiven, during the early hours of 2 November 2025.

Police have stated that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death remains ongoing. They also announced that traffic diversions will be implemented on the Foreglen Road on Monday night as officers conduct further examinations at the scene.

"We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident and we believe at this time that the deceased, Patrick Flanagan, was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run road traffic collision," Det Insp Connolly said.

Investigating officers will perform scene tests as part of the inquiry. In addition to the traffic diversions, police have assured that accommodations will be made for local residents affected by the measures.

Det Insp Connolly said police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area between 01:00 GMT and 02:00 2 November and who witnessed the collision.

Authorities have also requested that anyone possessing dash-cam footage or other relevant recordings that could assist the investigation come forward to aid the inquiry.
