Police Respond to Large Car Gathering in Aberdeen
Police responded to a substantial gathering of approximately 700 cars at an Asda car park on Garthdee Road in Aberdeen on Saturday. The event prompted multiple calls from the public reporting serious disorder in the area. Authorities had been informed of the planned meet-up earlier in the week.
Arrests and Offences
Two men, aged 25 and 28, were arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and drug offences. In addition, dozens of fixed penalty notices were issued to attendees.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and anticipate identifying further offences in the coming weeks.
Vehicle Prohibitions and Seizures
Enforcement actions included issuing prohibitions to fourteen vehicles due to dangerous conditions. Three vehicles were seized for being driven without insurance, eight vehicles received defect notices, and 58 offences related to construction, use, and MOTs were addressed through fixed penalty notices.
Police Statement
Sgt Dan Baird from road policing said: "While the majority of attendees behaved, it is disappointing to see such a high number of road traffic offences, with more expected over the coming days and weeks."
He added: "Driving in an anti-social manner is extremely dangerous, illegal and also has a negative impact on the local community."
"I would ask those responsible to stop and think about the consequences of their behaviour and understand that many of the offences detected are known contributory factors to serious injury and fatal crashes."
"We will continue to police these events and taken enforcement action where necessary."
