Officer Cleared of Rape Allegation

A Royal Navy officer who served aboard a nuclear submarine was acquitted of raping a female colleague at the Faslane Naval Base on the Clyde, visibly emotional as the verdict was delivered.

Jake Wilson, 38, from Gosport, Hampshire, faced accusations of committing the sexual assault in an accommodation block in May 2023.

Additional Sexual Assault Allegations

Prosecutors also claimed Wilson repeatedly sexually assaulted another female submariner, including an incident where he allegedly slapped her bottom in the submarine control room.

Trial Outcome

After a four-day trial at the High Court in Livingston, the jury returned a majority verdict finding Wilson not guilty on both charges.

Details of the Alleged Incident

A female submariner testified that she had been celebrating a colleague's qualification both on board the submarine and later at the mess base bar.

She stated that the alleged sexual assault took place in her cabin within an accommodation block on the base at Gare Loch.

Defence Position

Wilson denied both charges and presented a special defence asserting that both complainants consented to the sexual activity.
