Murder Investigation Initiated

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a murder investigation is underway following the death of Ann Widdecombe.

The police are searching for a suspect, described as a white male, believed to be responsible for the incident.

Officers responded to a call from the ambulance service at approximately 11:40 BST on Thursday at the home of the 78-year-old former Conservative and Reform UK politician, located on Dartmoor in Devon.

Upon arrival, Widdecombe was found deceased inside the property with serious injuries, according to police reports.

Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson commented on the case:

"This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe at this difficult time."

Authorities have indicated that additional information will be provided later on Friday.

On Friday morning, a statement from Widdecombe's agent announced her death but did not disclose details regarding the circumstances surrounding it.

When approached by the BBC for further comments, her agent declined to provide additional information.
