Recall of Porridge Products Due to Contamination

Moma Foods has withdrawn certain porridge pots and sachets from supermarket shelves and advised consumers not to consume them following a "mouse contamination event" that occurred in autumn 2025.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an alert on Sunday confirming that Moma Foods, owned by AG Barr—the maker of Irn-Bru—is recalling nine products, including porridge pots and sachets.

Investigation and Notification

A spokesperson for Moma Foods informed the BBC that the company initiated an investigation after receiving a consumer report regarding "a potential contamination issue." The firm stated:

"The third-party manufacturer notified us on 20 March that a mouse contamination event did occur in autumn 2025."

In its alert issued over the weekend, the FSA cautioned:

"These products may contain mouse contamination making them unsafe to eat."

Moma Foods, which also produces oat milk, confirmed that no other products have been affected and remain safe for consumption.

The FSA advised consumers who have purchased any of the affected Moma porridge products to refrain from consuming them. Instead, they should return the items to the store where they were bought to receive a full refund.

Company Response and Precautionary Measures

Moma Foods is collaborating with the FSA to ensure all impacted batches are removed from sale and that all necessary health protocols are observed. The company added:

"While we have received only one consumer report to date, as a precautionary measure we are recalling all batches produced during the relevant timeframe."

Company Background

Moma was established in 2006 by Tom Mercer, who left his position at the consultancy firm Bain & Company to start the business operating from a railway arch at Waterloo Station in London.

In 2022, AG Barr acquired Moma Foods after initially taking a major stake in the company.
