Life Sentence for Man Who Filmed Torture and Murder of Alan Lawson

Jordan Honeyman, 31, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of the murder of Alan Lawson, 36. The attack occurred at Lawson's home in Largs in February 2024, where Honeyman subjected him to a brutal and sustained assault.

During the incident, Honeyman repeatedly punched, kicked, and struck Lawson with a sharp weapon. Prosecutors detailed that Honeyman also jumped on Lawson's head and body from a staircase and stripped him of his clothes. He further inflicted harm by applying superglue to Lawson's wounds, forcing him into the shower, and failing to seek medical assistance.

Following the assault, Honeyman enlisted others to clean the property, transport Lawson back to his own residence, and dispose of blood-stained items by dumping them into the sea. Lawson's mother later discovered her son at his home, after which he was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. Medical reports indicated Lawson had suffered at least 54 injuries, and the attack caused a blood clot that resulted in a fatal stroke on 6 February 2024.

Evidence and Trial Details

The crime came to light after police found three screenshots from a video that Honeyman had filmed and sent to another individual. One image depicted a man lying in the foetal position, covered in blood and wearing only socks. During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Honeyman admitted to causing Lawson's death but denied murder. However, the jury found him guilty of murder, leading to a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Advocate depute Chris McKenna informed jurors that Lawson endured a "brutal and sustained attack." The court also heard that Honeyman had previously been jailed for nearly three years following an attack on Lawson in 2022.

Sentencing Remarks and Reactions

In sentencing, Lord Arthurson described the crime as "exceptionally callous," emphasizing that the violence was intended to inflict particular pain and amounted to acts of torture. The judge referenced the screenshots shown in court, stating:

"The screenshots shown in court taken from the video in the house of you and your victim made clear that you revelled in what you had done.
The image of you half naked and smeared in the victim's blood was resonant of a scene from sort of dystopian work of fiction."

Lord Arthurson added that all individuals who assisted Honeyman after the murder "should be thoroughly ashamed."

Detective Chief Inspector Ally Semple commented on the case, saying:

"This was a shocking and violent attack which has been devastating for the family and friends of Alan Lawson.
Honeyman will now face the consequences of his actions.
While no outcome can truly ease the pain of losing Alan, we hope this conviction and sentencing will bring some comfort to his loved ones."
