Man Admits Multiple Offences Across Scottish Borders
A 27-year-old man, Shane Donnelly, who admitted to a series of attacks on strangers, threatening behaviour, and fire-raising incidents across the Scottish Borders, has been cautioned that he faces a "lengthy sentence."
The offences occurred in St Boswells, Galashiels, Hawick, and Selkirk during October and November of the previous year.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing Adjourned
The High Court in Edinburgh was informed that in one of the assaults, Donnelly caused a stranger waiting at a village bus stop to suffer a fractured jaw.
Lady Ross, presiding over the case, adjourned sentencing to allow for a report on Donnelly and ordered that he remain in custody until then.
"The fact that these are offences committed over a very short period of time and which involve very serious assaults on people, in a completely unprovoked way, gives me very serious cause for concern."
Previous Convictions and Details of Offences
The court was made aware that Donnelly has prior convictions in both Scotland and England related to violence, disorder, and arson. Earlier this year, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
Donnelly admitted to assaulting a man causing severe injury and impairment in St Boswells on 4 October last year. Six days later, he assaulted and robbed two other men in Galashiels.
On 8 October, he also admitted to wilfully setting fire to windows and a door at flats in Hawick, acting in concert with another individual.
Additional admissions include threatening behaviour at a takeaway and nightclub in Galashiels on 4 October, and at a house in Selkirk on 6 November.
Furthermore, Donnelly pleaded guilty to driving a van while disqualified on 7 October after being observed at a petrol station on Mart Street, Hawick.
