Man Charged Following Death of Elderly Woman in Glasgow

A man has been formally charged in relation to the death of an 82-year-old woman who was found fatally injured on a street in Glasgow over the weekend.

Elizabeth Colligan passed away at the scene on Cardowan Road, located in the Carntyne area of the city, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police have confirmed that a 30-year-old man, identified by BBC Scotland as her grandson Grant McKinnon, is scheduled to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court later.

Colligan, affectionately known as Betty and recognized locally as a lollipop lady, was remembered by neighbours on Cardowan Road as a "nice wee lady."

Images shared on social media on Tuesday depicted several police officers on Cardowan Road escorting a man towards a police van.

Detective Chief Inspector David Lamont expressed the following:

"Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth's family and friends during this very difficult time.
We would like to thank the local community for their support while our investigation has been ongoing."
