Man Charged Over Derby Car Incident Appears in Court
A man charged following a car collision with a group of pedestrians in Derby city centre has made a court appearance.
Seven individuals sustained serious injuries when they were struck by a black Suzuki Swift on Friar Gate at approximately 21:30 GMT on Saturday.
Sandhu Ponnachan, 36, from Alvaston, who only confirmed his name and address during the hearing, faces multiple charges including six counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, one count of attempted GBH with intent, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of possession of a bladed article.
Ponnachan, who police reported as originally from India, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He was remanded to appear at Derby Crown Court on 29 April.
Derbyshire Police stated that four men and three women, aged between 36 and 52, suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries in the incident.
Four of the injured have since been discharged from hospital, according to the police force.
