Grass Fire Erupts Near Arthur's Seat

A significant grass fire has erupted in Holyrood Park, close to Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. The blaze originated near the ruins of St Anthony's Chapel, producing large plumes of smoke visible across the city.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving the call to attend the fire at approximately 18:50.

Previous Incidents and Response

In August of the previous year, a gorse fire in the same area led to the closure of a road on the hill, which is situated near Edinburgh's historic old town. During the current incident, the area was evacuated as the flames spread, but the fire was eventually brought under control.

Weather Conditions and Related Health Impacts

The fire occurred amid warm weather conditions, with the Met Office recording temperatures of 25°C in Edinburgh. These elevated temperatures have also affected recent events in the city.

During the Edinburgh Marathon held over the weekend, several runners required medical attention for heat exhaustion. The Scottish Ambulance Service stated that 16 individuals were transported to hospital on Sunday due to heat-related issues.
