King Charles III Visits Bermuda
King Charles III is undertaking his first visit to a British overseas territory as monarch by traveling to Bermuda. The King arrived in Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, on Thursday evening following a four-day state visit to the United States. Queen Camilla did not accompany him on this trip.
The King's initial day in Bermuda featured several engagements, including a visit to an education center dedicated to the island's ecosystem, a boat excursion with the Bermuda coastguard, and a ceremonial cake-cutting at the island's aquarium.
This visit marked a change of pace for King Charles, whose recent trip to the US was regarded as the most significant diplomatic event of his reign to date.
Although this is the King's first visit to Bermuda as sovereign, he had previously visited in 1970 to attend the opening of the island's parliament and toured parts of the territory in an open-top car.
As part of the official welcome on Friday, King Charles inspected the Royal Bermuda Regiment, a unit of the British Army, before greeting members of the public who had gathered along the streets of St George, the island's former capital.
Those assembled ahead of the King's arrival witnessed a military procession and marching band passing through the town. The King's arrival was also commemorated with a 21-gun salute.
The marching band performed a rendition of "Jamming" by Bob Marley and the Wailers in honor of the King.
People of all ages waved Union Jack flags and took photographs of the monarch.
Among the attendees was four-year-old Theo, who caught the King's attention by wearing a King's guardsman outfit. Theo was accompanied by his mother, who shared that she had purchased the outfit from the Buckingham Palace shop two years prior.
"He's worn it ever since!", she joked.

Another young visitor, Charlotte, had the opportunity to shake the King's hand and expressed her excitement.
"I'm never washing my hand again", she told the BBC.
Charlotte's mother, Jennifer, recounted how her own mother had brought her to see Queen Elizabeth II during one of her six visits to Bermuda.
Visits to Educational and Environmental Sites
King Charles proceeded to visit The Living Classroom on Trunk Island, an educational initiative aimed at teaching young people about Bermuda's ecosystem.
During this visit, members of the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) conducted a health check on a Bermuda Longtail, also known as a white-tailed tropic bird.
BZS is also commemorating the 100th anniversary of Bermuda's aquarium museum, where the King participated in a cake-cutting ceremony.

In addition to land-based activities, the King took a boat trip with the Bermuda coastguard, during which he learned about their efforts to combat illegal fishing and smuggling in the region.
Reception and Diplomatic Context
King Charles has generally been well received during his visits over the past week. Notably, during his US visit, President Donald Trump remarked to the King that his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, thought he was "cute." However, there were concerns that deteriorating UK-US relations might affect the atmosphere of the visit.
In recent months, President Trump had publicly criticized UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer several times over the UK's reluctance to become involved in the conflict between America, Israel, and Iran.
King Charles indirectly addressed these tensions in a speech before the US Congress, which was met with a standing ovation. In his remarks, the King praised the "indispensable" partnership between the UK and the US.
As a parting gesture, President Trump lifted tariffs on Scottish whisky "in honour of the King and Queen."
King Charles' visit to Bermuda is scheduled to last two days before he returns to the United Kingdom.
