Barton, aged 43, who was previously refused bail at a magistrates hearing, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

He and his co-defendant, 50-year-old Gary O'Grady, face joint charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent on Kevin Lynch, a 51-year-old former non-league football manager. The incident reportedly took place at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club on 8 March.
