Joey Barton and Another Arrested Following Assault Incident

Former footballer Joey Barton and a second individual have been arrested after a man was assaulted near a golf club.

The incident occurred on Sunday at 21:00 GMT in Fairway, close to Huyton and Prescot Golf Club in Merseyside.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from injuries to his face and ribs, according to Merseyside Police.

A 50-year-old man and a 43-year-old man were taken into custody on suspicion of wounding. Both remain in police custody for questioning.

The victim was transported to hospital for assessment of his facial and rib injuries.

Legal Proceedings and Court Statement

During a High Court hearing related to a libel claim involving Barton, Gervase de Wilde, representing former England footballer Eni Aluko, informed the court that his instructing solicitor had received a call from a duty solicitor at a Liverpool police station shortly before the hearing.

"Barton was arrested yesterday and is currently being held in custody," Mr de Wilde told the court.
