Inquest Opens for Three Sisters Who Died in Sea off Brighton
An inquest has commenced into the deaths of three sisters in the sea off Brighton beach.
Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, all from the Uxbridge area of London, died on 13 May in what Sussex Police described as a "terrible tragedy".
At the inquest held at Brighton & Hove Coroner's Court on Friday, senior coroner Penelope Schofield extended her condolences to their father, who participated via a remote link.
"It must be a difficult day for your family," she said.
Sussex Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led to the three women being in the water.
The court was informed that officers are satisfied there was no third-party involvement in their deaths.
The recorded cause of death for the three women has not yet been determined, the court also heard.
Schofield expressed hope that the inquest would "stop the social media speculation" surrounding the circumstances of their deaths.
The court received details about the recovery of the bodies. Jane Adetoro's body was brought ashore by the RNLI, where emergency services were present. She was declared dead at the scene.
Christina Walters' body was also recovered from the sea by an RNLI lifeboat. She was transported to the RNLI lifeboat station at Brighton Marina and pronounced deceased.
The body of the youngest sister, Rebecca Walters, washed ashore near Black Rock.
