Four Arrested During Protest in Epsom

Four individuals were arrested following a protest in Epsom, Surrey, where eggs and beer cans were thrown. The demonstration escalated into public disorder, according to Surrey Police, who reported that missiles were thrown during the event.

Details of the Reported Incident

The protest relates to an alleged attack on a woman in her 20s. She was reportedly followed after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of 11 April and assaulted outside Epsom Methodist Church. Police have stated that there is no evidence implicating immigrants or asylum seekers in the incident.

Police Response and Protection Measures

Approximately 30 officers equipped with riot shields were present to protect a property during a live stream of the protest. Surrey Police indicated that a residential property and nearby hotels were targeted by protesters who claimed these locations housed asylum seekers. The force described this information as "wholly inaccurate." A spokesperson affirmed that the police would continue to address criminal offences and public disorder, taking "robust action" against those involved.

Protesters' Statement

During the live stream, a woman representing the protesters read a statement emphasizing their intent:

"It was not about apportioning blame or fuelling anger, but about establishing the truth."

She added that it "feels as though key details are missing," and noted that residents felt "scared and unsafe."
