Strike Action Announced at Aberdeen Airport
Security staff at Aberdeen Airport have declared 14 consecutive days of strike action commencing on Monday due to unresolved pay disputes.
The Unite union stated that negotiations with ICTS HBS Security, facilitated by the conciliation service Acas, failed to reach an agreement, leaving strike action as the only option.
Impact and Union Response
The strikes will involve baggage screening personnel, who constitute the majority of the airport's baggage screening team. Unite has warned that the industrial action could result in significant delays for passengers and is urging ICTS to resume negotiations.
This announcement follows the recent resolution of potential summer strikes at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports, where new pay agreements were successfully reached.
Unite members at Aberdeen Airport voted unanimously in favor of the industrial action.
Union Statements
"ICTS is a very profitable company that can easily afford to give our members a decent pay increase. It has been caught red-handed putting profits before people," said Sharon Graham, Unite's general secretary.
Unite has recently settled two separate pay disputes at Aberdeen Airport involving ICTS central search staff and Aberdeen Airport Limited workers.
"ICTS would rather cause massive disruption at the airport than positively work with Unite to resolve this dispute. Strike action will cause significant delays at Aberdeen Airport. ICTS still has time to return to talks with an offer workers can accept. A failure to do so will result in significant airport disruption," stated Paula Buchan, Unite's industrial officer.
