UK Forces Intercept Iranian Drones in Iraq
British forces stationed in Iraq successfully shot down two Iranian drones overnight, Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed.
Despite the interceptions, some drones struck the coalition base located in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region in Iraq, resulting in injuries to several US troops.
Details of the Attacks
Brigadier Guy Foden reported that the base in Erbil, as well as another in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, were targeted multiple times on Wednesday night. British personnel are currently present in Erbil to assist in defending the base.
"The base and another in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad were struck 'a number of times' on Wednesday night and British personnel are currently in Erbil helping to defend that base."
There were no British casualties reported from the attacks. The Western base in Erbil is under US control but frequently hosts other coalition forces, including British troops.
