IDF Announces Punishment for Soldiers Involved in Statue Vandalism

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that the soldier who struck a statue of Jesus with a sledgehammer in Lebanon, along with the soldier who took a photograph of the act, will each face 30 days of military detention.

In an official statement, the IDF further disclosed that these two soldiers, whose identities have not been revealed, will be "removed from combat duty" as part of the disciplinary measures.

Additionally, six other soldiers present at the scene, who did not intervene during the incident, will be subject to separate disciplinary actions.

Incident Sparks Widespread Condemnation

The event took place in the village of Debel, located in southern Lebanon, and gained significant attention after an image depicting the vandalism was widely circulated online, provoking widespread condemnation.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his reaction to the incident, stating:

"I am stunned and saddened by what happened."
