Coroner Awaits Further Developments in Liam Payne Case
A senior coroner stated he "awaits developments" as the investigation into the death of former One Direction member Liam Payne continues in Argentina, according to a pre-inquest review hearing.
Senior coroner Crispin Butler informed the hearing that there have been no updates since the last review held in January 2025. At that time, he indicated he would seek comprehensive reports and eyewitness statements prior to a final inquest.
"We have had no further disclosure of evidence from Argentina via the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office,"
he said.
Details of Liam Payne's Death
The 31-year-old singer, who was raised in Bushbury, Wolverhampton, died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.
Butler mentioned that his understanding is that investigations are still ongoing. Documentation received before the hearing had undergone translation processes.
He also stated that he would provide the relevant documents to Payne's family, who were not present at the hearing held at Beaconsfield Coroner's Court on Thursday.
According to the post-mortem report, Payne died from multiple traumas and "internal and external haemorrhage" following his fall from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.
Legal Proceedings and Career Background
In February 2025, an Argentinian court dismissed charges of criminal negligence against three of the five individuals initially charged in connection with Payne's death.
Following One Direction's hiatus, Payne pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album LP1 in December 2019.

The inquest has been adjourned until the next pre-inquest review scheduled for 1 December.
