Search Operation Initiated in Ireland for Missing Women from 1990s
A search is currently underway in the Republic of Ireland as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearances and suspected murders of Josephine "Jo Jo" Dullard and Deirdre Jacob, both of whom went missing during the 1990s.
The Gardaí (Irish police) announced that they have commenced a search operation on open ground near the border between Wicklow and Kildare counties.
"The area of land would be searched and subject to excavation, technical and forensic examinations over the coming days,"the Gardaí stated.
Background on the Disappearances
Josephine Dullard disappeared in 1995, while Deirdre Jacob went missing in 1998. The Gardaí have emphasized that they
"continue to keep an open mind into these investigations."
Dullard, aged 21, was last seen in Moone, County Kildare, on 9 November 1995 after socialising earlier in Dublin. Her case was escalated from a missing persons inquiry to a murder investigation in 2020.
Jacob, who was 18 years old at the time, disappeared on 28 July 1998. She was last observed crossing the road towards the entrance of her home in Roseberry, Newbridge, County Kildare.
Details of the Current Search and Investigation
The Gardaí have indicated that the search operation
"has the support of other state expertise, if required,"and they continue to keep the families of both women informed of developments.
Authorities have issued an appeal to the public, requesting anyone with information, regardless of how minor or insignificant it may seem, to come forward and contact them.
The operation is being led by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Serious Crime Review Team, with support from the Garda National Technical Bureau and local resources from the Kildare Division.
