Trial to Proceed in Lyra McKee Murder Case

The trial concerning the murder of journalist Lyra McKee will continue after a judge declined to dismiss the charges against all nine defendants involved.

Lyra McKee, aged 29, was fatally shot by the New IRA amid rioting in the Creggan area of Londonderry in April 2019.

Among those charged with murder are Peter Cavanagh, 37, of Mary Street in Derry; Jordan Devine, 25, of Bishop Street; and Paul McIntyre, 56, of Kells Walk.

During proceedings at Belfast Crown Court on Friday, Mrs Justice Smyth ruled that these three men, along with six other individuals from Derry facing charges such as rioting and throwing a petrol bomb, should remain on trial.

"They and six other men from Derry who face charges including rioting and throwing a petrol bomb should remain on trial," Mrs Justice Smyth stated.
