Irish Government Chartered Flight Arrives in Dublin
The first Irish government chartered flight tasked with repatriating stranded Irish citizens from the Middle East has successfully landed at Dublin Airport.
The flight, carrying 194 passengers, departed from Oman on Saturday afternoon local time and arrived in Dublin at approximately 05:00 local time.
Earlier this week, the Irish embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced that priority would be given to elderly citizens and those with medical conditions, while children under 16 years of age were permitted to travel free of charge.
Thousands of individuals from both the UK and the Republic of Ireland have been unable to leave the region following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered retaliatory strikes by Tehran across the Middle East.
The flight originated in Muscat, Oman, made a stopover in Cairo, Egypt, before continuing to Dublin.
Originally scheduled to depart on Friday, the flight was delayed due to what the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs described as "highly challenging" conditions in the Middle East.
There has been some criticism regarding the fare set by the Irish government for those wishing to secure a seat on the flight. Adults were charged €800 (£695), while children under 16 were allowed to travel without charge.
The Irish Foreign Affairs Minister, Helen McEntee, addressed the concerns regarding the cost, stating:
"The price of the flight was substantially reduced compared to the overall cost."

Situation on the Ground
The first group of passengers returning to the Republic of Ireland from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) arrived at Dublin Airport on a commercial flight from Dubai on Wednesday night.
This Emirates flight carried nearly 400 passengers and was the first to operate in several days following the closure of nearly all airspace in the Middle East due to the United States-Israeli attacks on Iran.
On Saturday, the UK government announced plans to charter a flight from Dubai early next week for British nationals wishing to leave the region, contingent on the evolving situation on the ground.
This commercial flight departing from the UAE will be available for a fee. Eligibility to register includes British nationals, their spouses or partners, and children under the age of 18.
