Key Social Issues Identified in Charity Report
Figures indicate that the three highest ranking issues for clients of Citizens Advice Guernsey (CAG) remained consistent in 2025 compared to 2024, although their order shifted.
Employment contract term problems, access to affordable housing, and consumer rights continued to be the primary concerns in 2025, according to the charity.
In the current report, consumer rights have moved from the first to the third position in terms of prevalence. The charity stated this
"would appear to indicate"that the introduction of consumer legislation has had
"a positive impact".
The charity also noted that issues concerning guest workers have risen
"significantly"in ranking. It plans to publish a detailed report once the analysis of 2025 data is complete.
Each year, CAG selects social policy areas for analysis based on the frequency of issues faced by its clients.
The charity explained that its advisers identify emerging trends and ongoing issues to inform policymakers about the challenges people encounter.
It reported a slight increase in client numbers, from just under 3,000 in 2024 to just over 3,000 in 2025.
'Serious Issues'
CAG emphasized that rising energy costs and poverty remain serious issues that
"need addressing", adding that these problems affect
"far more people"in the community than the figures suggest.
At the beginning of 2025, the charity relocated to new premises and implemented a new database system, which means direct comparisons between this year's figures and previous reports are not possible, it said.
Despite this limitation, the charity stated that
"broad trends"could still be identified.
In last year's report, based on 2024 data, CAG submitted reports to relevant States of Guernsey committees on issues including discrimination, harassment and differential treatment, homelessness, and private rental deposits.
