Details of the Incident During Football Match

Fitzgerald was playing for the Epping Football Netball Club when the injury occurred. According to Luke De Vincentis, the club’s president, Fitzgerald collided heads with another player during a tackle and subsequently received a second impact to the head, possibly from a flailing boot or knee.

“During a tackle, he clashed heads with another player before receiving a second blow to the head ‘which could have been from a flailing boot or a knee,’”

De Vincentis told ABC radio on Monday.

The club has called for an investigation into the safety of playing football on cricket pitches converted into football fields. They noted the presence of a hard strip in the center of the ground where Fitzgerald fell and appeared to have sustained the second head impact.

However, the City of Whittlesea, responsible for managing the reserve, stated that the ground complies with relevant safety standards.
