Flood Warnings Issued Following Severe Weather
Flood warnings have been issued across several states following recent wild weather and heavy downpours.
This morning, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) released a warning for parts of the Upper Hunter region, forecasting heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding.
Similarly, the Tasmania SES has issued a flood warning for Royal George, Avoca, and nearby low-lying areas. Authorities have advised residents in these locations to monitor conditions closely and prepare to relocate to safety if the situation deteriorates.
Updates on the evolving weather conditions and flood warnings will be provided throughout the day.
ASIO Advises Caution Over Sensitive Discussions in Internet-Connected Vehicles
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has cautioned politicians and public servants against discussing sensitive government information inside internet-connected cars due to the risk of electronic surveillance.
ASIO emphasized that discussing classified or sensitive information outside secure workplace environments always carries risks, particularly in vehicles that transmit real-time data back to manufacturers.
Deputy Director-General Lisa Alonso Love addressed this concern during a budget estimates hearing held last night. She noted that the warning, issued amid a rising demand for electric vehicles, did not specify any particular country of origin or car manufacturer.
“Obviously, a connected car may have other vectors to gather that information but those conversations should only ever happen in places that are set up for classified conversations,”
“People should be conscious of the things that they are discussing in vehicles, knowing that people may be able to get that information.”
In addition, the Australian Signals Directorate, the nation’s signals intelligence agency, has already published guidance regarding the security risks associated with connected vehicles.
