Fatal School Shooting in Tacloban City
Three students have died and several others were injured after two fellow students opened fire at San Jose National High School in Tacloban city, located in the central Philippines, according to police reports.
Authorities believe the suspects, aged 14 and 15, acted out of a "grudge" related to bullying. One suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident, while the other surrendered later.
The suspects were armed with a .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol. The 9mm pistol is registered to a policewoman who is a relative of one of the suspects and who is currently in custody.

Investigation and Police Statements
Gun violence is relatively common in the Philippines, but incidents involving school shootings are extremely rare.
Colonel Allen Rae Co, the national police spokesperson, told reporters on Monday that warning signs in the teenagers' behavior had been overlooked, resulting in a missed opportunity to prevent the attack.
"The two [suspects] went straight to the classroom. Without saying anything, they started firing," Colonel Co said.
"Initially, it appears that the motive of the crime is grudge for school bullying."
He added that it remains unclear whether the intended targets were present in the classroom at the time of the shooting.
In addition to the three fatalities, three individuals sustained gunshot wounds, and four others were injured while fleeing in panic, according to Colonel Co.
The suspects were armed with a .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol, the latter belonging to a policewoman relative who is now detained.
Investigators discovered violent videos on social media showing one of the teenagers firing a gun, which Colonel Co cited as clear warning signs.
"So this is very obviously red flags... we're not putting blame on anybody, but if anybody was able to monitor these red flags, this could have been prevented."
Community and Family Reactions
Jennelyn Badoria, mother of one of the deceased 15-year-old students, spoke to Agence France-Presse, emphasizing accountability for those who allowed the suspects access to firearms.
"I'm asking that the gun owners be charged, because the guns wouldn't have ended up in the children's hands if it weren't for them," Badoria said outside the school.
This incident marks the first school shooting in Tacloban City in recent memory, according to Evalyn Diaz from the city police.
"We call on parents who have firearms to be more responsible, hide their firearms, make sure those are properly hidden, talk to their children," Diaz urged.
Government Response and Security Measures
The Department of Education has expressed "deep concern" regarding the shooting. In a statement, it called for collective prayers for the safety, healing, and recovery of those affected.
Authorities, including the police, announced plans to review school security protocols, bullying policies, and systems for monitoring student behavior.
Context of Gun Violence in the Philippines
Police data indicate that gun violence has been on a steady decline in recent years. In 2024, the Philippine National Police recorded nearly 5,000 cases of gun violence nationwide.
