Four Arrested in Connection with Murder of Scottish Businessman in Kenya

Four men have been apprehended in relation to the murder of Campbell Scott, a Scottish businessman whose body was discovered in a sack in Kenya.

Scott, aged 58, was found deceased in Makongo Forest, approximately 60 miles (96.5 km) from Nairobi, where he had been residing, on 24 February of the previous year.

Kenyan detectives reported that the four suspects were detained following an intelligence-led, multi-agency operation conducted in Ukunda, a coastal town situated about 16 miles (25.8 km) south of Mombasa.

The arrests followed a separate investigation into a violent robbery involving an American national in Nyali, near Mombasa.

Scott, originally from Dunfermline in Fife, was a senior director at the credit scoring company FICO. He had traveled to Nairobi to attend a conference prior to his disappearance.

He was reported missing after failing to meet colleagues to deliver a presentation at the JW Marriott Hotel located in the Westlands area of Nairobi.

It was known that Scott had visited the Havana nightclub the evening before his disappearance.

Kenyan police later indicated their belief that he was taken to a property in the Pipeline district, a slum area approximately 9.3 miles (15 km) from his hotel.

Prosecutors believe that Scott was held at this location for a period during which attempts were made to access funds from his bank accounts.

His body was subsequently found in a pineapple sack with his hands bound in Makongo Forest.

A post-mortem examination was conducted but proved inconclusive; however, pathologists noted that the injuries on his body were "too minor" to have caused his death.

Initially, police questioned two men—a taxi driver and a nightclub waiter—who were believed to be among the last individuals to see Scott alive.

Two men were arrested in March of the previous year, with one appearing in court on charges of murder.

Following these developments, law enforcement officers issued an appeal to locate three additional suspects.

Credit Cards and Stolen Items Recovered

In an official statement, Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that the recently arrested suspects were connected to the murder of Campbell Scott as well as multiple violent robberies.

"An operation was conducted by DCI officers drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) Headquarters, working jointly with their counterparts drawn from SCCIO Nyali and SCCIO Msambweni (Ukunda)."

"The suspects, Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge were apprehended at Ideal Apartments, Ukunda."

"The suspects have also been forensically linked to another robbery with violence incident in Watamu, Malindi Sub-County."

"A search at the residence led to the recovery of stolen items, including an HP laptop, mobile phones, assorted foreign currencies, multiple credit cards, cheque books from various banks and PDQ [card reader] machines."
