Resident doctors in England have cancelled their planned strikes that were set to commence on Monday.

The British Medical Association (BMA) announced that the government had "made a new offer" at the last minute.

The strike was scheduled to take place from 07:00 BST on Monday 15 June until 06:59 on Friday 19 June. This would have been the 16th strike in the ongoing dispute over pay.

The BMA stated on Saturday evening that the action has been called off "while members vote on a new offer covering jobs, pay and progression."
