Temporary Closure of Hawick GP Walk-In Clinic
A GP walk-in clinic located in Hawick, part of a network of newly established sites across Scotland, has been temporarily closed due to "temporary staffing pressures."
The pilot service, which opened at Hawick Community Hospital at the end of April, offers patients access to GP-led care without the need for an appointment.
NHS Borders announced that the clinic would be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week but is expected to reopen on Thursday.
The Scottish government acknowledged the situation, stating it was "aware of the issues" and anticipated the clinic would resume operations "as soon as possible."
Background and Purpose of the Clinic
This clinic is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at addressing the so-called "8am rush" for doctors' appointments.
The Hawick service, which launched on 28 April, typically operates from 14:00 to 18:00, Tuesday through Friday.
It is intended to assist patients with "new, short-term health problems that need timely assessment but are not emergencies."
Currently, access to the clinic is limited to patients registered with Teviot and Mairches (O'Connell Street) Practices in Hawick and Selkirk Medical Practice.
NHS Borders expressed gratitude to patients for their "understanding and co-operation" during the period the service is unavailable.
Official Statements and Future Plans
The Scottish government reiterated its awareness of the situation and its expectation for a swift resolution.
"The service is fully-funded and part of our pilot network of GP walk-in services across Scotland,"
a government statement said, adding that additional sites would open in the coming weeks.
- New GP walk-in clinic treats 183 patients in five weeks
