Community Cooking Classes Promote Health and Confidence
Free cooking sessions are currently being offered in Godalming with the aim of fostering community connections, encouraging healthy eating habits, and boosting participants' confidence in the kitchen.
Joyfull Greens, a plant-based cookery school, is hosting these monthly sessions on Wednesday mornings at the Denningberg Centre, according to Waverley Borough Council.
In the previous session, attendees prepared a Gambian peanut stew together, an event the council described as a "huge success."
The council highlighted that the initiative provides free cooking classes specifically designed for residents who may encounter challenges in accessing healthy food. This includes individuals from low-income households, single parents, carers, and anyone interested in enhancing their cooking skills and confidence.
Community Benefits and Cultural Exchange
Samantha Hutchison, assistant director of community services at the council, emphasized the value of the classes, stating:
"The classes offer a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, share skills, experience different cultural cuisines and improve both their health and community wellbeing."
Frédie Lecerf, founder of Joyfull Greens, explained that the sessions focus on making healthy and sustainable eating accessible to all, regardless of budget or culinary expertise.
"We are passionate about bringing health, joy and connection to the community through cooking and eating together."
