Fire Incident at Royal Victoria Hospital

A fire broke out in the emergency department (ED) of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and has since been extinguished.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) reported that they were alerted to the fire at 18:43 BST, which occurred on the ground floor of the ED.

Police officers remain present at the scene as investigations continue.

The main waiting area and reception of the ED have been closed temporarily. Patients arriving at the ED are being directed to use a side entrance leading to an alternative waiting area.

Four fire appliances were deployed to manage the fire. The NIFRS described the scene as "smoke-logged".

It has not yet been confirmed whether there were any injuries resulting from the incident.
