Heating Issues at Grangewood Hospital Addressed
The Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) has confirmed it will continue monitoring the temperature at Grangewood, a mental health inpatient unit located on the Gransha site in Derry, as repairs to a faulty heating system are ongoing.
This announcement follows an apology issued by the trust to patients at Grangewood for "any discomfort" caused by "intermittent issues" with the heating system, which had persisted over several days.
Restoration and Ongoing Maintenance
On Friday, the trust acknowledged that Grangewood had experienced problems with both heating and hot water supply for a number of days. By Tuesday, the trust reported that the heating system had been "restored to a thermal comfort level."
"The Trust Estate's team continue to carryout ongoing maintenance to the heating system at Grangewood," a WHSCT spokesperson said.
The trust emphasized that temperatures will continue to be closely monitored and that any further necessary remedial work will be undertaken to maintain patient comfort.
"Once again, we apologise for any discomfort or inconvenience this may have caused to our service users at the facility," the spokesperson added.
Previous Issues and Repairs
Last week, the trust noted that although hot water had been restored, there were still "intermittent issues" with the heating system. The estates team had carried out repairs and was actively monitoring the situation to ensure patient comfort.
"It was working to 'ensure patient comfort is achieved'."
Related Incidents
In a related incident last month, patients at the trust's Altnagelvin hospital were provided with bottled water after a burst pipe disrupted the hospital's water supply, highlighting ongoing infrastructure challenges within the trust's facilities.
