Critical Incident Declared at Darent Valley Hospital
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust has declared a critical incident following problems with the water supply in the west block of Darent Valley Hospital, located in Dartford. The issue began on 28 April and is expected to persist for at least four more days.
The trust reported that the water supply problems could "compromise the quality" of the water, rendering it unsafe for drinking or washing purposes. In response, the affected water supply has been isolated, and repair work is underway. However, detailed test results confirming water safety are anticipated by the end of the week.
The trust issued an apology for the "disruption and inconvenience" caused by the situation but emphasized that the hospital remains open and fully operational.
Measures and Safety Precautions
Signage has been placed in the affected areas advising people not to use the water. Despite this, toilet facilities remain fully functional. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that alternative arrangements have been established to provide safe drinking water and handwashing facilities where necessary.
Water in other parts of the hospital, including surgical services, intensive care units, and most outpatient areas, continues to be safe for use, according to the trust.
Hospital Statement
"We understand the frustration and inconvenience this is causing.
Please be assured that we are treating this with the utmost seriousness and will return the affected areas to normal use once all required assurance checks have been completed.
The hospital remains open and fully operational."
