Russell T Davies on New Project and LGBT Community Challenges
Screenwriter Russell T Davies has announced he is developing a new television project but admitted he "doesn't know if it works yet." The Swansea-born writer, known for his work on Doctor Who and 's It's a Sin, highlighted that the LGBT community continues to encounter "new threats" while also discovering "new joys," particularly following the success of his recent series Tip Toe.
The drama Tip Toe centers on the intensifying conflict between two next-door neighbors: a gay bar owner and a struggling electrician. Despite the show's inspiration from "the state of the world," Davies emphasized that the issues portrayed are not exclusive to the LGBT community.
"It's just the way things are heading in gay rights and queer rights, and especially trans rights, but actually the violence and problems that arise in Tip Toe could apply to almost any group.
If it was a Jewish drama you wouldn't blink about the problems being expressed. Women would say 'that's our life'.
I think if I can write this stuff forever, then I will. I'm already planning a new one. I don't know if it works yet, because I haven't finished writing it, but yeah, there's always a lot to say."

Tip Toe stars Alan Cumming and David Morrissey, continuing Davies' exploration of complex social themes.
Previous Works and Impact
Tip Toe follows Davies' acclaimed series It's a Sin, which depicted the lives of friends in London during the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s. Featuring pop star Olly Alexander, It's a Sin quickly became a hit, with the sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust reporting an increase in HIV testing after the show's release.
Davies' work also includes Queer as Folk, set in Manchester's Gay Village, which portrayed the lives of three characters in a candid, humorous, and explicit manner unprecedented on UK television.
Davies' Commitment to LGBT Storytelling
Davies expressed his ongoing dedication to writing about the LGBT community, noting that there are always new perspectives and lessons to explore.
"My life is this community and I love writing about it, talking about it, thinking about it. It's who I am.
As a community, we keep on expanding, we keep facing new threats and keep finding new joys."
Doctor Who Departure and Future Plans
Last month, Davies confirmed his departure from Doctor Who amid announcements that a planned Christmas special had been cancelled as the BBC prepares the next phase of the long-running sci-fi series. Having helped revive Doctor Who in 2005, Davies described his exit as "goodbye from me but hello to a big new future for the show."
Speaking ahead of London's Pride weekend, he described the show's future as "unpredictable and new" and expressed excitement about what lies ahead.
