A Clumber spaniel named Bruin has been awarded the prestigious best in show title at Crufts 2026.

Handled by his owner Lee Cox, Bruin secured victory in the Gundog group earlier during the show, setting the stage for his overall win.

"I can't believe it," Cox said as he received his rosette. "It's just wonderful for this breed. He's the dog of a lifetime. He's really, really special."

Following the win, Cox and Bruin were presented with the Kendall Memorial Trophy along with a £200 cash prize in recognition of their achievement as this year's champions.

Among the other contenders vying for the top prize were a Tibetan mastiff named Viking, a Pembroke Welsh corgi called Hazel, and a miniature schnauzer named Spencer, all of whom were among the six finalists who narrowly missed out on the best in show award.

Describing Bruin after the victory, Cox remarked that the dog is "a bit of a diva" who "likes his own way" but emphasized,

"But he'll never ever let me down,"

Crufts is organised by the Royal Kennel Club. Chief executive Jannine Edgar extended her congratulations to Cox and Bruin, stating,

"Closing this year's competition with a truly outstanding win and for taking home the prestigious best in show title. Their connection and skill in the ring have shone throughout, making them thoroughly deserving champions."

According to the official Crufts website, the event expected to feature 18,698 dogs across various categories in 2026, which is 123 more than the number recorded in 2025.

Last year's best in show was awarded to a whippet named Miuccia from Italy.
