Federal Jury Rules Live Nation Operates as Monopoly
Live Nation, the entertainment conglomerate that owns Ticketmaster, has been found by a federal jury to be operating illegally as a monopoly. This verdict comes after four days of deliberations in a trial with significant implications for the music industry.
The company, which owns concert venues and music festivals, may face requirements to divest parts of its operations or potentially separate from Ticketmaster. This potential outcome aligns with the position of former Attorney General Merrick Garland, who advocated for such measures when initiating the lawsuit in May 2024.
The US Department of Justice filed the legal action, asserting that Live Nation's business practices have excluded competitors, resulting in increased ticket prices and diminished service quality for consumers.
Live Nation has been contacted for comment but has not yet responded.
