Firmus Energy Announces Gas Price Reduction in Ten Towns
Firmus Energy has announced that its gas price in the Ten Towns area will decrease by just over 10% starting in April, which equates to a saving of approximately £92 annually for a typical customer.
This reduction follows a comprehensive review conducted by the Northern Ireland Utility Regulator, which oversees price controls on major incumbent suppliers including Power NI for electricity, SSE Gas in Belfast and the west, and Firmus Energy within the Ten Towns network.
Scope of the Ten Towns Area
The Ten Towns region encompasses Antrim, Armagh, Banbridge, Ballymena, Coleraine, Craigavon, Newry, Londonderry, along with more than 25 additional towns and villages in the surrounding vicinity.
Context of the Price Review
The price reviews for both Firmus Energy and SSE were finalized prior to the recent surge in wholesale gas prices, which was triggered by the US military action against Iran. Before this escalation, wholesale gas prices had decreased from the extreme levels experienced following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Utility Regulator Comments on Market Volatility
"The conflict has impacted gas prices globally, which have risen sharply over the last few days.
We expect that wholesale gas prices will remain volatile while the conflict continues. We will continue to monitor the regulated tariffs over the coming weeks."
These remarks were made by Colin Broomfield, director of markets at the Utility Regulator, highlighting ongoing market uncertainties.
Firmus Energy's Recent Tariff Adjustments
Firmus Energy had previously reduced its gas tariff by 7.86% in October of the previous year and by 11.84% in April 2025.
Ryan Miskimmin, sales director at Firmus Energy, stated: "Since April last year, our consecutive reductions have decreased our tariffs by 27% with a cumulative saving of around £300 per customer."
Ongoing Review of Greater Belfast Network Tariff
Additionally, Firmus Energy is currently reviewing the tariff for its Greater Belfast Network area, with further updates expected in due course.
