Special Connection with Elton John

Hollywood actor Taron Egerton has expressed that he shares a "special connection" with Elton John following his portrayal of the singer in the 2019 biopic Rocketman.

The 36-year-old actor described the opportunity to play John as a "singular opportunity" that he fully embraced.

Egerton noted that John was "very complimentary" about his performance in the film, which earned him a Bafta nomination.

"I think we have a special connection over that movie, and I saw him a couple of weeks ago," Egerton said. "I surprised him for his birthday and we had lunch. It was lovely."

Reflections on Portraying Elton John

Golden Globe winner Egerton reflected on how it might feel to have someone portray you on screen, suggesting it could be "weird." He added that John has expressed many kind remarks about his performance over the years.

In an interview with actress Charlize Theron for Esquire, Egerton revealed that the most Welsh aspect of his personality is his love of singing.

The two actors are currently starring together in the new Netflix action drama Apex.

Welsh Heritage and Professional Experiences

Egerton, who hails from Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, spoke about the tradition of choral singing in Wales. He commented,

"There's a tradition of choral singing in Wales. Some people think that all Welsh people can sing and I would tend to agree."

Regarding his professional demeanor, Egerton stated that he is rarely intimidated by colleagues on set.

"I get intimidated socially sometimes, I think, by people, but generally, when I step on set, I'm good," he said.

Working with Michael Caine

Egerton recalled his experience working with legendary actor Michael Caine, who is 93, on the 2014 film Kingsman: The Secret Service. He mentioned how Caine quickly "levelled the playing field" during their collaboration.

"He's so down to earth. And he said a couple of very, very lovely things," Egerton shared.
